New Premises Schedule Now Definite

We are delighted to confirm that the Young Chelsea Bridge Club will open its doors in its long-awaited new premises at 54 Goldhawk Road, W12 8HA for the evening game on Friday 17th July. There will be a glass of bubbly for everyone who visits that evening and the duplicate will be free, so do come along and see our new home.

Please note that the sessions on Monday 13th July and Wednesday 15th July are suspended due to moving equipment from the Wood to the club’s new home.

There has been quite a lot of work done to reach this stage, and the premises will remain a “work in progress” for some time, but we are sure you will be impressed with the space and facilities at Goldhawk Road. As the summer season is generally quiet, we will initially run the evening duplicates as now – on Monday evenings at 7.00pm and Wednesday and Friday evenings at 7.30pm. All the duplicates in July will be free for all comers, so if you can’t make the opening night, do come along later this month. There will also be supervised play sessions on Monday evenings and Wednesday afternoons, and some Sunday “Friendly Duplicates”. We will extend to running Tuesday and Thursday afternoon and Tuesday evening duplicates, along with a full teaching programme, in September.

To find the club premises, note that the building is set back from the main road behind a Sainsbury’s Local store and the premises comprise the basement area of the building. It is directly opposite Goldhawk Road station on the Hammersmith & City and Circle lines. It may also be reached by a walk of about 8 minutes from Shepherd’s Bush station on the Central line or Shepherd’s Bush station on the Overground. You might also choose a walk of about 15 minutes north from Hammersmith station on the District and Piccadilly lines.

Buses 94 and 237 go along Goldhawk Road and stop outside the premises and the 94 is a 24-hour service. Numerous other bus routes serve the Shepherd’s Bush area – numbers: 31, 49, 72, 95, 148, 207, 220, 228, 260, 272, 283, 295, 316, 607, C1 and N207.

If coming by car, the pay-and-display bays in the roads to the south of Goldhawk Road are mostly free after 5.00pm and Goldhawk Road itself is unrestricted after 6.30pm. But do please check the signs, as some of the nearby roads have pay-and-display bays which become residents only between 6.30pm and 8.00pm, so if you use one of these you will get a ticket. Be careful!

We look forward very much to seeing many old friends at the new premises. Do tell all your bridge-playing acquaintances the good news and we will hope to see many new friends as well!

At Last…

The Management Committee is delighted to announce that contracts were today exchanged on the lease for the new club premises at 54 Goldhawk Road, with a contractual completion date of 30th April. We may take possession sooner if the current occupiers are ready to vacate before the end of the month.

If all goes to plan we will undertake the conversion work during May and June and open the new club premises in early July, soon after the European Open Championships.

Annual General Meeting

The next Annual General Meeting of the Young Chelsea Bridge Club will be held at 6.30pm on Monday 27th April 2015 at the St John’s Wood Club, Grove Hall Court, Hall Road, NW8 9NU. Refreshments will be available at the meeting, which will be followed by a free duplicate bridge session for those who wish to play.

The agenda for the meeting can be seen here. This is subject to additional items requested by members. Any member wishing to add any items to the agenda should submit them to Chris Duckworth, Management Committee Secretary, in writing (email or post) to reach her no later than 12 noon on Monday 20th April.
